I read an article yesterday about a man who had been arrested 62 times, while going to work.
I remember back in the '80s, while working in Florham Park... the few Black men that worked there had all been stopped by the police occasionally, just driving to work. They had suits, tailored shirts and ties on which was the dress code back then, but it didn't matter. There are other towns like this too, still today. Driving while black in certain towns is 'policed'.
One guy name, I worked with had been stopped so many times, and the one time he was driving his daughter's car because his was in the shop, they arrested him. Someone from our job vouched for him and they let him go.
There are so many stories so many can tell just on this subject alone. Many of us over the years have tried to have a conversation with our 'white' friends and associates about it, but they don't believe it because it doesn't happen to them.
So the Trayvon Martin murder was an injustice that is beyond comprehension, and what came out of it? Black folks shouldn't wear hoodies. Really? As if a suit and ties makes a difference... SMDH.
